Samuel Arthur Sackett, a Mormon, of Brigham City and Salt Lake City, Utah, fathered 24 children by polygamous marriages to sisters Mary and Laura Peterson.
Samuel was born in Illinois, the son of David Sackett and Sarah Lawrence. He married Mary Peterson in Brigham City in 1876. They had sixteen children between 1877 and 1904. He married Mary’s sister Laura Peterson in 1884 and they had eight children between 1884 and 1907.
Samuel left a fascinating account of life in the Old West, including details of religious discrimination suffered, particularly because of his polygamy.
